School Cancellations

If school is dismissed for heat related conditions, only the Cedar Falls High School will be affected.

The Cedar Falls CSD will utilize a 90-minute late start delay when we have inclement weather.  At each level, this means that school start time, access into buildings, and bus schedules will all be 90 minutes later than a normal school day, (Tuesday - Friday). Secondary parents please note:  The bus schedule is different for a 90-minute inclement  weather delay than for a Monday late start (PLC) bus schedule. For inclement weather, please add 90 minutes to your normal (Tuesday-Friday) bus pick up time.

Cedar Falls High School - One of Five Iowa Schools Honored for Breaking Education Barriers

Five schools from across the state were honored by the State Board of Education on Wednesday for their work to raise achievement among students who traditionally face challenges in the classroom. The Breaking Barriers to Teaching and Learning Award was created by the State Board of Education. Each year, the award recognizes successful efforts to eliminate gaps in achievement among students. This year’s award-winners were recognized for having the highest proficiency rates statewide in math and reading among a specific subgroup of students, such as students who do not speak English as their native language and students from low-income backgrounds. State assessment data from five years were examined to confirm a positive trend for each school.

Cedar Falls High School, Cedar Falls Community School District: Recognized for its work with African American students. A full 78 percent of the school’s African American students are proficient in math and reading, compared to a statewide average of only 52 percent.

The district held three sessions seeking feedback on the bond referendum. If you were unable to attend, but would like to provide feedback, please complete the online survey:

Paper surveys can be requested by calling 319-553-2426.

If you live outside of the Cedar Falls Community School District boundaries and you wish to have your child(ren) attend Cedar Falls Schools, or you live within the school boundaries and wish to have your children attend a different district, that is an Open Enrollment situation.  For those who live within the Cedar Falls Community School District but wish to have your child(ren) attend a school that is outside of your resident area (example: you live in the Holmes Jr. High resident area but wish to attend Peet Jr. High), that is a Rules Exception.  All Rules Exception requests must be made in writing to either the Elementary (Mrs. Pam Zeigler) or Secondary (Mr. Dan Conrad) Director of Education (depending on your child(ren)'s grade level).
